How to Easily Create Seamless Instagram Carousels in Canva

We all know those seamless Instagram posts that flow together as you swipe through each image. These panoramics can be made easily in Canva and posted on Instagram.

Here's one I made using these simple steps:

Utilizing these seamless Instagram carousels helps elevate your brand, create a better user experience, and creates endless possibilities for your Instagram post designs.

Let me break it down step by step for you!

STEPS

1 - SET DIMENSIONS

First step in creating your seamless Instagram carousel is to set your dimensions in Canva. Since ideal Instagram posts are 1080x1080, multiply the number of posts you want by 1080 to get your width.

Canva's maximum width is 8000px, so you may want to split your post between two different pages.

Since I like to do 8 posts per carousel, I set my dimensions to 4320x1080 and do two pages – I find breaking it up makes it easier.

Set the dimensions for your Canva post to a width of 1080px multiplied by the number of slides you want and a height of 1080px.
Number of Carousel Slides Dimensions (width x height)
1 1080x1080
2 2160x1080
3 3240x1080
4 4320x1080
5 5400x1080
6 6480x1080
7 7560x1080
8 4320x1080 (two pages)
9 5400x1080 and 4320x1080 (two pages)
10 5400x1080 (two pages)

2 - SHOW RULERS AND GUIDES

Now that you have an extra-wide page for your Instagram carousel, you need to be able to divide it into sections so you know where each slide will separate.

To do this, go to File (top left) then Show rulers and guides.

Select Show rulers and guides under File

3 - DRAG GUIDES TO EACH SLIDE BORDER

Now that you can see the guides, you need to drag each guide to separate every slide for your carousel

Each guide should be 1080px apart. So, for a post with the dimensions 4320x1080, there needs to be 3 guides: one at 1080px, 2160px, and 3240px.

To do this, click on the ruler to the left of you workspace and drag to the correct position labeled with the top ruler.

Dragging these can be a little bit tricky to perfectly align, so I suggest zooming in as much as possible

4 - CREATE A SEAMLESS DESIGN

This is the fun part! You now get to create designs and incorporate them across multiple slides. My favorite way to make carousels flow is to have images or smaller elements stretch across multiple slides.

Creating this seamless design for your carousels helps to elevate your brand and show your knack for design!

5 - DOWNLOAD YOUR SEAMLESS DESIGN

Now that you've created a seamless design that stretches across multiple slides of your Instagram carousel, it's time to download it.

Download your design as you normally would:

  • Keep the dimensions the same as you set earlier
  • Download all pages
  • Set the file to a PNG or JPG
Download your flowing Instagram carousel with its original dimensions as either a PNG or JPG.

6 - SPLIT YOUR DESIGN INTO CAROUSEL SLIDES

This is the most important part!

Trying to split your design into multiple slides on Instagram will not work, so you need to split the design into individual images before posting.

Use Postcron Image Splitter (FREE) to divide the wide image into individual slides.

To do this

  1. Navigate to the Image Splitter here
  2. Set the number of columns to the number of slides (example: for 4320x1080, set the number of columns to four)
  3. Set the number of rows to one
  4. Drag the box to select the entire design
Use an image splitter (such as Postcron) to split your design into multiple slides for your carousel.

7 - DOWNLOAD THE INDIVIDUAL CAROUSEL SLIDES

Since you've successfully split your design into slides, finally download these slides.

Because you're downloading multiple images, you'll need to unzip the download. Just click twice to do this, or follow instructions here.
